I Met A Man On My Hen Night And Invited Him To My Wedding

A woman has revealed how she met another man on her hen night and invited him to her wedding – before eventually divorcing her husband and marrying him instead.

Tarlie Silva, from Kilmarnock, Virginiamet her now-husband Julio Silva while on her bachelorette trip in September 2019 and invited him and his two friends to her wedding reception.

The 27-year-old says that she and Julio ‘barely spoke’ on the hen do, and she was shocked when he actually turned up as a guest at her wedding reception a month later.

After having already informed the other wedding guests about the ‘funny story’ of how they’d met the trio, when Julio entered the wedding reception, he was treated ‘like a celebrity’.

Tarlie and Julio, who now share two sons, had a photo together and ‘exchanged small talk’, and the 33-year-old was so popular at the wedding that he even danced with Tarlie’s mum and grandmother.

Just six weeks after tying the knot in December 2019, Tarlie and her first husband decided to call it quits after their two-year-long relationship ‘fizzled out’.

A week later, Julio swiped up to reply to Tarlie’s Snapchat story, and the pair hit it off over messages after ‘realising that they had a lot in common’.

Commercial fisherman Julio took Tarlie on their first date on December 28, 2019, and the pair have been together ever since.

The couple, who now have two children together, got engaged in December 2020 and got married in April 2021.

Tarlie admits that she had cold feet about her first wedding, but believes that if she’d called-off the big day then her and Julio never would have spoken.

The stay-at-home mum and photographer says some people have suggested that the way the pair met was ‘inappropriate’, but she believes the relationship was ‘meant to be’.

Tarlie said: ‘We went to North Carolina for my bachelorette trip.

‘We were sitting down for a drink, and a guy came up to us and asked if it was a bachelorette, and what we were doing.

‘He told us that he was third wheeling and pointed at who is now my current husband, Julio, and their other friend.

‘They ended up coming with us to the club. We just all danced, I added the girl who they were with as a friend on Facebook.

‘I also added the other friend Nick and when I woke up the next morning I had a message from Nick on Facebook thanking us for having a good time.

‘I sent them a picture of the wedding invitation and they said that they would come.

‘On the morning of the wedding we hadn’t heard any updates. I thought that maybe they’d just agreed (to come) but they didn’t plan on doing it.

‘Then my friend was on Instagram and saw that they had posted a picture golfing at a local country club and we were like oh wow, I think they’re coming.

‘They walked in about an hour after the wedding reception started.

‘They were like celebrities, we’d already told people that we had invited these people that we met and we just thought that it was such a funny story.

‘Julio danced with my grandmother and with my mother, we all immediately ran up to take pictures with him.’

Tarlie says her and Julio exchanged small talk at the wedding, but it wasn’t until her first marriage ended at the start of December 2019 that they began messaging on Snapchat.

Tarlie said: ‘Me and Julio hadn’t really spoken when that picture was taken besides “Oh my god I can’t believe you guys are here”.

HAPPY COUPLE: Julio asked Tarlie out on a double date after she broke up with her husband, and the two have been together since

‘I went on my honeymoon after that and about a month and a half later me and my husband at the time decided that the wedding was a mistake.

‘We were no longer into each other any . It (the relationship) felt forced than natural and we decided to split up.

‘A week later Julio replied to a Snapchat story of mine about a can of ginger ale.

‘I don’t think Julio thought that I was still happily married (when he messaged me) because we were friends on Snapchat and when you break up with somebody on your story you kind of make it obvious.

‘I don’t think he thought I was still married – I think it was pretty clear I wasn’t.

‘We continued to talk on Snapchat and realised that actually we had a lot in common.

‘After about a week or so of talking on Snapchat he asked me if I was interested in a double date with his sister and her boyfriend and I said yes.

‘We met halfway in Virginia Beach and we’ve been together ever since.’

Despite her first marriage ending so quickly, Tarlie says she doesn’t regret it, as she wouldn’t have met Julio if she hadn’t got married first time around

Tarlie and Julio got engaged a year later in December 2020 and tied the knot in April 2021.

The stay-at-home mother believes that her and Julio were ‘meant to be’ and the pair never would have met if it hadn’t been for her first wedding and hen night.

Tarlie said: ‘Looking back I’ve had thoughts about whether I should have called off my first wedding when I had cold feet.

‘I would have saved people a lot of heartache, time and money if I would have just called the wedding off.

‘In my head I thought everyone has cold feet – you see that in movies and you hear about it all the time so I thought that it was a normal feeling.

‘If I’d called the wedding off I would have never went on my bachelorette trip and me and my husband (Julio) never would have met.

‘Even if we did meet on that bachelorette trip we didn’t really speak or communicate at all during that time.

‘So even if the wedding got called off after that, and there was never a wedding for him to show up as a guest to them we wouldn’t have spoken either I don’t think.

Tarlie (pictured with her husband Julio and their two sons) said she is ‘glad’ that everything ‘happened in the way it did’

‘I think it really happened for a reason.’

Tarlie disagrees with suggestions that the way that her and Julio met was ‘inappropriate’.

She said: ‘Maybe the whole situation was a little inappropriate to some people but I just don’t feel compelled to think that.

‘When I invited them to the wedding I sent the invitation to the friend, I never added Julio on Facebook at the time.

‘We hadn’t really spoken on the bachelorette trip.

‘He was just invited on that communal invitation when I sent a picture of it, we only actually spoke after the wedding.

‘I’m glad that it happened in the way it did.

‘I think it worked out how it should have worked out, we have a beautiful family, we have two little boys now and we’re super happy.’
