Students will be moved to a temporary site nearby in January

A school building will be closed for six months while essential repairs are carried out on its ceilings.

In January students at Denbigh Primary School in Luton will be moved to a temporary site on the Bishopscote Road playing fields until July 2026.

Luton Council said a planned routine inspection identified the ceilings in a number of classrooms needed replacing and “should no longer be used until the work is completed”.

Head teacher Natalie McKiernan said: “It is important the repairs are undertaken to ensure the long-term stability and safety of the school.”

The council said the repairs were needed to keep the building “safe and secure for the future”.

Work to prepare the site on Bishopscote Road is due to be completed by late December.

Luton Council said it did not expect much traffic disruption once it opened and expected many families to still walk to the temporary site because it was nearby.

The school confirmed work was needed on ceilings in multiple classrooms used for Key Stage 1 at Denbigh.

Ms McKiernan said the repairs needed were extensive and required “significant on-site activity”.

“We appreciate that this has been a challenging time for our pupils, families and staff and we thank them for their continued support.”
