Iranian Medical Toad Enters Global Markets For The First Time

The medical toad is a small organism with remarkable therapeutic effects, and has been used for many years in traditional and modern medicine to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and aid in the healing of damaged tissue.

The medical toad works by secreting special enzymes and compounds, which makes it a natural remedy that can be used in surgeries, treating vascular disorders, and chronic diseases.

To meet this vital need, experts at Science and Technology Park BUniversity of Tehran A project to produce and reproduce medical toads locally, benefiting from scientific research, international experience, and the establishment of specialized technical centers.

“Our work focuses on the medical toad,” said Masoumeh Malek, a faculty member at the University of Tehran, director of a technology company, and head of the park’s support unit. “We dealt with a living organism for which there were no instructions for production or use within the country.”

The beginning of the project dates back to 2009, when Malak was informed that treatment centers in Iran were collecting large quantities of toads directly from nature, which led to an alarming decline in their numbers. She added: “The first question that came to me was how could a creature that deals directly with human blood be collected from nature and used in treatment? “So we decided to start breeding and raising the medicinal toad locally.”

Masoumeh Malek was able to make the first exports of Iranian medical toads to France, which is the country that owns the only company licensed by the US Food and Drug Administration to export toads to the United States. She explained that exporting to other countries, especially Europe and North America, faced challenges due to sanctions, but expansion plans continue.

This achievement demonstrates the path of development of medical toads in Iran from a scientific and technical perspective, emphasizing the importance of international standards, the role of supporting institutions such as the Science and Technology Park, and a future vision for expanding exports.
