Demi Lovato has been brutally roasted online over her awkward response to an interview question on the red carpet.

The singer, 33, looked ethereal as she attended the BoF500 Gala during Paris Fashion Week over the weekend, donning a tight, strapless black gown.

While the former Disney Channel star seemed as confident as ever as she posed in front of cameras in the figure-hugging dress, things turned slightly uncomfortable when she started chatting with reporters.

Lovato appeared to be caught off guard after one journalist asked her, ‘What does fashion mean to you?’

She stood there silently for a moment, starring at the reporter.

‘It means everything, it’s so empowering,’ she then responded before quickly turning away.

One fan shared a clip of the moment on X, formerly Twitter, writing, ‘Her PR didn’t teach her this answer she was caught off guard I’m crying,’ and it went viral.

The video gained over one million views, and it sparked a slew of jokes about her reaction.

‘She panicked so bad,’ replied one user.

‘That silence said everything,’ agreed another.

‘LMAO you can see the panic in her eyes,’ someone else chimed in.

‘You can hear the PR team screaming in the back,’ joked a different fan.

‘That’s when you know the media training files corrupted,’ read a fifth tweet.

A sixth said, ‘That split-second deer-in-headlights stare? ICONIC. Her PR’s hitting the group chat like, “We need better bulletproof answers.”‘

‘Me watching her brain go “wait what?” in real time,’ penned another user.

Others, however, defended Lovato.

‘There’s nothing wrong with this answer, step off her neck,’ urged a fan.

‘She nailed her response! Fashion gives so many the chance to stand out and sometimes feel their most confident self,’ said another.

‘Her answer was fine, seriously, give her a break,’ agreed a different user.

It comes weeks after Lovato opened up about the importance of queer spaces in a candid cover story interview with Paper Magazine.

In the pages of the publication, the star put on a rather sultry display by going braless in a very racy, sheer polka dot top.

Lovato – who uses both she/her and they/them pronouns – talked about her connection to queerness and club culture as she came out as nonbinary in May 2021.

The singer said: ‘My connection with queer club culture is … I love going out with my friends.

‘love dancing, and I love doing that in queer spaces because it feels safe to me. If I were to go to a straight club, it just doesn’t feel as safe.

‘I feel there’s danger. I feel like when I go to a queer space, I know that I’m with my friends. I’m know I’ll have a great time.’

‘I just have always felt safer in queer spaces, and I think that’s because queer people have a way of living so authentically that it makes me feel like I can live authentically,’ she added.

The Cool for the Summer songstress married musician Jordan Lutes, 34, in May.

She also revealed in the interview that she turned to drink and drugs as a pre-teen because she had been ‘bullied and was looking for an escape.’

The Camp Rock alum told how she would regularly steal alcohol from her stepfather through her teenage years, before turning to cocaine when she was 17, which she said she ‘loved too much.’

Demi was sober for six years from the age of 20 to 26, but suffered a near-fatal overdose in 2018, causing her to be legally blind and brain damaged, after having a heart attack and three strokes while in hospital.
