Australian podcaster Cassidy McGill has horrified her fans after discovering a cockroach floating in her morning cup of tea.

The former Love Island star, 30, shared the shocking moment on TikTokadmitting she felt physically ill as she realised it had come from inside her kettle.

The video has amassed over 165,000 views in just a couple of days, with countless commenters also horrified at her recent kitchen discovery.

‘I’ve just had a fear unlocked, I think I’m going to be sick,’ she said in the clipbefore recounting the grim discovery.

‘I went to make myself a cup of tea, poured the water in the cup and thought, “Oh, what’s that brown thing floating around in my cup? Did something escape from the tea bag?”‘

When Cassidy zoomed in, the culprit was clear – a small cockroach, floating lifelessly in her freshly brewed tea.

‘How many times has that happened!? How many times has there been a bug or a cockroach in my kettle and it hasn’t fallen out?’ she asked in disbelief.

Like many, Cassidy hadn’t thought it a necessity to check her kettle before making a hot drink, and admitted she has ‘multiple cups of tea a day.’

The 30-year-old’s shock quickly turned to dread as commenters flooded the video with their own kettle horror stories and unsolicited advice.

‘Omg, you need to refill it with fresh water every time,’ one wrote.

‘Plus descale your kettle like once a month! Go buy a new one immediately.’

‘Exactly why I will only have a glass kettle. My aunt and uncle were having huntsman spider coffees for we don’t know how long,’ another joked.

Others admitted they’ve already developed bug-checking habits after similar encounters.

‘I always check the kettle for this reason,’ another wrote, as others echoed the same advice:

‘Girl, the first thing you do is a bug check and refill.

‘The tears are so real because I’d be crying too. That happened to me in my Nespresso water tank; that’s why I check it every day now.’

The clip has struck a chord with thousands of Aussies, particularly as the country enters cockroach season, which typically runs from October through March when the creepy crawlies thrive in the warm, humid weather

The clip has struck a chord with thousands of Aussies, particularly as the country enters cockroach season, which typically runs from October through March when the creepy crawlies thrive in the warm, humid weather.

Pest experts warn that kettles, coffee machines and toasters are prime hiding spots because they are dark, warm and full of moisture.

Once inside, cockroaches can easily crawl into the spout or heating chamber, leaving behind a nasty surprise for the next unsuspecting tea lover.

To avoid repeating Cassidy’s experience, experts suggest emptying and refilling your kettle daily with fresh water, descaling once a month, and keeping the lid off when not in use so it can dry completely.

A glass kettle, they say, is the safest bet if you want to ‘see what’s brewing’ before you pour.

As for Cassidy, she’s been left wondering just how many insect-infused teas she’s unknowingly sipped.
