than 40 million Americans rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) each month, which provides a vital lifeline of financial support for buying groceries. However, starting November 1, those benefits might be temporarily halted due to the government shutdown. than two dozen states are currently suing the Trump administration to release emergency funds and continue providing support; however, it seems that relief won’t come until the shutdown ends. While there are several ways to find assistance, including local food banks, Instacart also wants to offer a helping hand.

On Friday, Instacart announced a new grocery offer to assist families using SNAP, along with a nationwide food bank drive to support hundreds of food banks across the country as they prepare for increasing demand.

Starting this week, Instacart is offering active SNAP customers 50% off their next grocery order, up to $50, which it says is “designed to immediately help families stretch their grocery dollars.”

The company explained that all eligible customers who used EBT SNAP benefits to buy groceries delivered via Instacart at any point in October will receive a personalized discount code via email in the coming days (check your spam folder if you haven’t received one). This offer can be redeemed nationwide at any of the 30,000 stores accepting SNAP payments through Instacart. The company also added that this represents a commitment of up to $5 million in direct aid for families. (Note: The 50% off up to $50 offer is valid for 100,000 redemptions or until November 30, 2025, at midnight, whichever comes first. It cannot be combined with other discounts.)

“We’re committed to ensuring every family in every community can put food on the table,” Dani Dudeck, the chief corporate affairs officer at Instacart, shared in a statement provided to Food & Wine. “As SNAP funding faces unprecedented disruption and food banks brace for longer lines, we’re focused on practical, immediate solutions: helping families who use SNAP stretch their grocery dollars and helping food banks stock up to support their communities.”

The company is also taking things a step further by helping already stretched food banks stock up on goods. In its announcement, the company shared it’s immediately expanding its nationwide Community Carts Campaign to support more than 300 Feeding America partner food banks across the U.S.

The Community Carts, launched by the brand in 2022, enable anyone to donate items to their local food banks. To date, the program has helped deliver more than 200,000 items and counting. With this expansion, Instacart is adding nearly 200 additional food banks, now supporting organizations in 48 states. Find more ways to get or give assistance to those in need in our guide here.
