These 5 Good Lock Modules Feel Too Essential To Stay Optional On Samsung Phones

Samsung’s One UI Android skin already offers deep customization, allowing you to tweak animations, layouts, and .

Still, it feels miles away from being the perfect Android skin, largely because Samsung’s own Good Lock has raised expectations.

Samsung’s Good Lock modules show what’s actually possible in an Android skin. While some of the modules add extra convenience, some feel too important to ignore.

I use specific Good Lock modules to get what I miss in One UI and not for the “extra convenience.”

It’s even frustrating to see that some of those features are already built into other Android skins that offer far fewer built-in customization features than One UI.

It bothers me because I’ve been using One UI for a long time and plan to continue using it in the coming years as well.

One UI is expected to get better with every update, but it can get even powerful if some Good Lock modules cease to exist individually and are built directly into One UI.

Here are the five Good Lock modules that I feel are too essential to stay optional on Samsung phones.

One Hand Operation+

At 6.2 inches, the screen size of my Samsung Galaxy S21 is the same as the current Galaxy S25.

That means anyone with the S21 will face the same one-handed usage issue, even after upgrading to the latest Galaxy flagship. Things can get worse with the Ultra model.

However, I face none of it, thanks to the One Hand Operation+ module.

The One Hand Operation+ module takes the gesture system on the Galaxy phone to a whole new level, allowing users to launch a wide range of shortcuts from both edges.

Unlike One UI’s built-in gesture system, Open Hand Operation+ allows users to do short and long swipes from both sides in three directions: straight, diagonal up, and diagonal down.

You can assign different actions to each one of them. For example, instead of reaching the top of your Galaxy handset, you can use one of the side gestures to open the Notifications panel.

You can also use it to launch an app, take screenshots, go to the previous page, navigate to Home, and .

If not for all models, One Hand Operation+ should be built directly into One UI for Ultra models to make them comfortable to use with one hand.

Home up

The One UI launcher gets plenty of things right, which only adds to the frustration when you see how limited the Recents screen is.

One UI’s horizontal carousel on the Recents screen isn’t great for multitasking because you can see only a couple of apps.

It surely looks nice, but functionally limited to something like a vertical list or a grid view, which allows you to see apps on the Recents screen.

You can bypass this limitation in One UI by setting up the Home Up module. In addition to the Recents screen, you can use it to customize the home screen and Edge panel.

The DIY Home screen feature is the most exciting in Home Up, but I use the module only to activate Task changer.

When I enable the Task changer in Home Up, it offers four layouts for the Recents screen, including Tilt stack, Grid, Vertical list, and Slim list.

Slim list is my favorite because I can see the highest number of apps that I opened recently on my screen.

With the layout set to Slim list, you hardly need to scroll to find the app that I’m looking to revisit.

Nice Shot

I use the Nice Shot module for only one purpose, and that’s for getting rid of badly captured screenshots quickly.

It’s surprising that One UI still doesn’t offer a simple delete button in the screenshot layout.

Nice Shot has a fix for this.

After installing it, all you do is open it, turn on Nice Shot, and enable theAdd delete buttontoggle. You’ll now see the delete button on the extreme left of the screenshot toolbar.

It also offers a bunch of useful tools for screen recording.

For example, you can use it to turn on Do not disturb mode during screen recording. Additionally, it offers several selfie video options.

Sound Assistant

My mid-range Motorola Edge 50 Neo allows me to set per-app volume levels, but my flagship Galaxy S21 doesn’t have anything quite like it built into its system.

The Sound Assistant solves this problem by allowing you to set different volumes for each app.

One UI’s Separate App Sound complements this well, because when I listen to Spotify on your Bluetooth speaker and play games on your phone speaker, I don’t want both apps to share the same volume level.

It also allows you to change the volume of apps individually from the system’s volume panel.

Not only that, but you can move the position of the volume panel from right to left, change the lighting effect, shape, and color of the volume panel.

over, the Sound Assistant module allows you to control the behavior of the physical volume keys on your Galaxy handset.

It lets you use the volume up or down key to change the track when the phone screen is locked or turned off.

NotiStar

The Notification history is one of those underrated features that we still don’t see on all Android skins.

Even if it’s available in One UI, it’s hidden deep in the Settings. However, that’s not the only caveat of One UI’s Notification history feature.

NotiStar, a Good Lock module, can help you bypass all the limitations of the One UI’s built-in Notification history, as it offers you control over your notifications.

For example, the built-in Notification history capability keeps a record of all the notifications you received in the last 24 hours.

On the flip side, NotiStar allows you to keep them on your phone for as long as you want.

NotiStar also has a search option to let you find the notification by typing a keyword. You’ll also be able to filter them by app.

On top of that, you can reach the notification history page from the lock screen or home screen.

One UI absorbing Good Lock modules is good for everyone

Samsung’s Good Lock positions itself as a power tool. But when it offers something very basic, like the delete option in the screenshot toolbar, I can’t help but wonder whether the company’s claims about Good Lock are overstated.

It’s bad marketing for Good Lock, and as an admirer of the Galaxy ecosystem, I don’t want to develop such bad faith towards a genuinely powerful toolkit.

Samsung can fix this by incorporating some of the core modules directly into One UI and focusing on evolving Good Lock into a truly useful toolkit designed to offer powerful features rather than fixing basics.

I’d love to see it happening in the future, because that would mean a win for both Samsung and its users. If not all the core features, bring at least the above five directly to One UI.
