Salad lovers: check your fridges. A major recall has been issued for several popular salad dressings sold at Publix and Costco across 27 states.
According to the official enforcement reportthe recall affects several packaged salad dressings, as well as those used in prepared foods: Monarch Italian Salad Dressing, Sysco Creamy Poblano Avocado Ranch Dressing & Dip, Ventura Caesar Dressing, Pepper Mill Regal Caesar Dressing, Pepper Mill Creamy Caesar Dressing, Caesar Dressing from Costco Service Deli and Costco Food Court, and Hidden Valley Buttermilk Ranch.
The recall began on November 4 after California-based Ventura Foods pulled 3,556 cases of salad dressings after black plastic planting material was found in the granulated onion used in the products. On November 7, Costco issued a notice to customers stating:
“Costco and Ventura Foods are announcing the recall of select Sell By dates of Item #19927 Caesar Salad and Item #11444 Chicken Sandwich with Caesar Salad due to the possible presence of plastic foreign material in the salad dressing of the items. Affected products are labeled with Sell By Dates between October 17, 2025, and November 9, 2025. Please stop eating the product and return the item to your local Costco for a full refund.”
The recall was later classified as Class II on December 4, meaning “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,” per the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
According to the FDA enforcement report, the affected products were sold to seven retail customers across 42 locations in 27 states, as well as one customer in Costa Rica. Consumers who have purchased any of these dressings are advised not to consume them and to return the products to the store for a full refund.
