World’s Most Expensive Chocolate Brand Released A $7.50 Bite

  • To’ak, the Ecuadorian chocolate maker known for its $490 Master Series bars, has launched To’ak Rocks, a accessible version priced at $7.50.
  • The bites are made from the same rare Ancient Nacional cacao, cultivated using deforestation-free, regenerative practices that protect Ecuador’s rainforest.
  • By skipping conching and tempering, To’ak preserves a floral, fruity flavor and crumbly texture that reflects chocolate in its purest form.

To’ak, the Ecuadorian chocolate house known for producing some of the priciest chocolate bars in the world, wants you to try it. And no, it isn’t asking you to spend $490 on one of its Master Series bars. Instead, it’s offering a brand-new version for a fraction of the price.

If you haven’t heard of the brand, it’s likely because of its flashy price point. However, that number isn’t without merit. The brand was founded in 2013 when its creators discovered nine Ancient Nacional trees in the remote Piedra de Plata valley, which were believed to be extinct. As the company told Food & Wine, the trees likely produce “the same cacao cultivated by the Mayo-Chinchipe people over 5,300 years ago.”

And on Thursday, To’ak announced its latest product, To’ak Rocks, chocolate bites that it says share the same “genetic lineage as the Ancient Nacional cacao” behind its expensive version, priced at $7.50. These are also made from deforestation-free cacao grown by To’ak’s partner farmers in collaboration with the Third Millennium Alliance, which helps protect 14,000 acres of Ecuadorian rainforest.

“Everyone deserves a gateway to extraordinary chocolate. Rocks makes our rare genetics and ethical regenerative sourcing accessible, inviting a younger, bolder audience into the world of To’ak,” Charles Michel, the brand’s chief innovation officer, shared with Food & Wine. “For years, To’ak has been at the forefront of prototyping the most exemplary regenerative supply chain for cacao. Most consumers ignore that conventional chocolate is linked to deforestation and biodiversity loss. To truly change the way we make chocolate, we also had to target accessible entry points, while keeping the highest standards in the industry.”

The brand explained that the chocolate is made without the conching or tempering process used by most manufacturers, which the company says gives it a unique flavor that they describe as floral, fruity, and lighter, “similar to the profile of a hot chocolate you would drink in an indigenous community,” as well as a distinctive texture.

For years, To’ak has symbolized the height of chocolate luxury with its $490 bars.

“To’ak’s Rocks is a rebellious innovation,” Michel explained. “Most chocolatiers wouldn’t even consider untempered chocolate to be real ‘chocolate. We found that skipping tempering and conching not only creates an addictive crumbly texture, but it also preserves the full aromatic floral bouquet that makes Ancient Nacional Cacao so special. It is chocolate at its essence, stripped from all unnecessary artifices.”

“People often associate To’ak with exclusivity,” cofounder Carl Schweizer shared. “Rocks are the untamed side of that mastery: spontaneous, textured, and alive. They carry the same craftsmanship, proving that luxury can also be playful and regenerative.” The treat is now available at toakchocolate.comin select specialty stores across the U.S., and will be available globally in 2026.
