An avalanche won’t stop some skiers from hitting the slopes.

A small avalanche hit the slopes at the Holiday Valley Resort in Ellicottville, N.Y., on Monday, Dec. 15, the resort’s marketing director Dash Hegeman said in a statement to PEOPLE. He said the resort cannot pinpoint the exact time the avalanche hit, but theorized it occurred either late Dec. 14 or early Dec. 15.

It occurred on the black-diamond trail known as The Wall, which was closed at the time of the incident. No one was injured.

“The Wall is our steepest slope and the slide most likely happened as a result of a large amount of manmade snow, sitting on top of a good base of natural snow,” Hegeman told PEOPLE.

He said the “expert-only” trail is “probably anywhere between 30 to 35 degrees of a pitch,” according to WGRZ. “When you’re at that kind of pitch and you’re making snow on top of natural snow, there is a chance that a slide occurs.”

He told PEOPLE that the ski patrol team and mountain team monitor that area, “looking for any cracks and making sure that area is as safe as possible.”

The Wall remains closed as crews monitor conditions and will likely reopen later this month, WBE reports. The other trails are currently open.

“The Mountain Ops team has already gotten the grooming equipment out on the slope and pushed the snow that slid back up and distributed it throughout the slope,” Hegeman told PEOPLE.

Although avalanches are common in the West, such as Utah, Montana and California, Hegeman noted that a similar small snowslide occurred last year, WBEN reported.

The resort opened on Dec. 5, with 31 inches of snow, according to Snow Brains. Hegeman also told WBEN that the resort has received over 62 inches of natural snow. “It’s a testament to just how incredible of a winter we’ve been having so far,” he said.
